Milan to London van transport

Over the Alps

From Milan we cross the Alps either through the Mont Blanc or Fréjus tunnels into France, or north through Switzerland via the Gotthard. The Swiss route needs transit paperwork because Switzerland is outside the EU customs area, so we choose the crossing with that in mind. From there we head for Calais and cross to Dover or Folkestone, about 1,100 km in total.

Where we collect in northern Italy

We collect across Milan and, on request, from Monza, Bergamo, Como and Turin. Showroom and design district pickups need opening hours and a contact on site. For apartments, tell us the floor, whether the building has a lift big enough for furniture, and if the courtyard allows the van to stop close to the entrance.

What we carry

Milan is a design city and we carry furniture and lighting bought from showrooms, fashion and sample stock, artwork, and household goods for people relocating to London. Fragile pieces are wrapped and secured for the mountain roads.

Customs

Goods from Italy into Great Britain need export and import declarations, and new or traded items need a commercial invoice. Transfer of Residence relief may cover household goods for people moving to the UK once HMRC approves it.

London delivery

We deliver anywhere in London and the South East, with two person teams for heavy or delicate items.

Design pieces and fragile items

Design furniture and lighting often arrive in the original packaging; keep it if you can, because it protects the item best. Otherwise we blanket wrap and strap pieces individually. Tell us about glass, marble and lacquered surfaces so we load them where nothing can rest against them.

Timing and arrival

The Alpine crossing and the distance to Calais make this a multi day lane. We plan driving within legal hours, confirm the route once the paperwork is clear, and give you a delivery window for London. Tell us about any fixed dates when you ask for a quote.

Items we are often asked about

Designer sofas and chairs, lighting, marble tables, fashion samples and household goods. Marble tops are heavy and brittle, so they should travel on edge with proper protection rather than flat. Tell us the size and weight of each piece. For showroom purchases, the invoice should list every item so the customs entry matches what is on the van.
