Two ways to cross

Newcastle is one of the few UK cities with its own overnight ferry to the continent: DFDS sails between IJmuiden near Amsterdam and North Shields on the Tyne. From Berlin that means a drive west across northern Germany and the Netherlands, an overnight crossing, and delivery in the North East without the long run up from Dover. When the ferry timing does not suit the job we go the southern way instead, through Calais and the Channel, then north on the A1. We pick whichever route makes sense for your dates and load.

Small loads are welcome

Packing a single box properly

For a box travelling from Berlin to the North East, use a double wall carton, fill empty space so the contents cannot move, tape every seam and label it with both addresses and a phone number. Write a short contents list and keep a copy for customs. If the box is heavy, tell us the weight so we can place it low on the van.

Timing on the northern route

The IJmuiden sailing runs overnight, so we plan Berlin collections to reach the port in time for the evening departure.
